Kalamkari

The word ‘Kalamkari” is derived from word “Kalam” which means Pen and “Kari” refers to craftsmanship. It originated in the modern-day states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana several hundred Years ago.

This style was first used to portray scenes from sacred texts such the Mahabharata, Ramayan and Bhagvatam. There paintings were often used as decorative back drops in temples, depicting the stories of deities.
